How You Can Help Support One World

One World is an organization that relies entirely on volunteer labour, and therefore its operating expenses are relatively low. We have also been fortunate in that we have usually been able to rely on supportive organizations and individuals to provide us with affordable accommodations whenever we need them. (Often we have been charged only a token fee, charged bargain-basement prices, or sometimes not charged anything at all!) This is important, since One World has no property of its own. (Even our office is donated space, located in a private home.) One World has been able to keep its accommodation expenses at a minimum because members are constantly mindful of the need to locate and secure more-or-less suitable accommodations in a timely manner — accommodations for the preparation and debriefing periods of participants, Collective meetings, Working Group meetings, Parent meetings, etc. (See Calendar of Events for a more complete list.)

Nevertheless, we certainly do have operating expenses — passenger vans, insurance for them, telephone bills, photocopying bills, mailing expenses and travel expenses, etc. (volunteers are pretty widely dispersed throughout the province of Ontario and beyond). And there are those times when affordable suitable accommodation is simply not readily available at the time we need it.

Another of our objectives is to become financially capable of paying all the costs of participating for all facilitators. Although we don’t offer facilitators a salary, we would very much like to be able to pay all of the cost of participating for all facilitators.

We would also like to be able to subsidize more of those otherwise-qualifying would-be participants who have no means of earning or fundraising their share of the costs.

     Donations in kind are often also helpful. For instance right now we are in need of a passenger van — 12 or more passengers, preferably 10-years-old or less. (Even a 15-year-old reliable vehicle would be a definite improvement over what we have now!) If you are able and willing to donate a van, have accommodations that may be suitable for One World events (which usually take place in Ontario, Canada), or wish to help out in some other way, please let us know! We also have T-shirts for sale that have our logo on the front and one of our mottos on the back. All proceeds go to support the community.
